INSPIRATION
Watch a pro on game day and you'll notice something.
They don't roll out of bed and perform.
They warm up. Same sequence, every time. Then after, they cool down.
Most of us run our days like amateurs.
Alarm goes off. Them fingers can't wait to find the phone before your feet find the floor. Forty-five minutes of other people's noise before a single thought is our own. Then the day happens to us until we are looking like Marlo Hampton at the end of the evening:
I lived like that for years. What changed wasn't motivation. Motivation is weather. It comes and goes.
I built a warm-up and a cooldown, and I stopped negotiating with them.
I'm up at 5:30 a.m.. I protect a three-hour buffer before I let the world in.
Gratitude journal. Movement. A cup of ginger and mint tea. Meditation. Prayer. I get my body and my mind right before the noise gets loud. The phone stays down as long as I can hold out, ideally until 7 or 8. I won't pretend I always win that one. But I'm better than I was.
At night, I journal. It's how I close the day on purpose instead of letting it just stop. I also write down the three most important things for the next day so my nervous system will chill out.
Here's the part that matters for you.
You're not lazy. You're unwarmed-up.
The gap between the life you want and the one you have is rarely a motivation problem. It's a system problem. Athletes know that. They never leave the warm-up to chance.
So I stopped trying to have good days.
I started training for them.
COLLABORATION
The best moves in my life came from people who put me on.
My friend Dr. Tichavakunda handed me Deep Work by Cal Newport. Newport's whole argument is that your best thinking has to be protected from the noise, or it never shows up. That book is why the buffer exists. Before the inputs. Before the reactions. Before the world gets a vote.
That's what the right people do. They put you on game before you feel ready for it.
Earl did the same for me, in a different arena. You will meet him soon.

EXECUTION
Your 1% this week. Build your bookends. Do it before Wednesday.
• Pick ONE morning anchor you do before you touch your phone. Make it so small it's almost embarrassing. • Pick ONE shutdown move that ends your workday on purpose, instead of letting it bleed into the night. • Write tomorrow's single most important sentence before you sleep tonight.
Don't redesign your life. Just build the warm-up.
One question: What's the first thing you touch when you wake up. Your phone, or your plan? Hit reply. I read every one.
PASS IT ON
Know someone grinding on raw effort with no system underneath it? Forward them this. Every athlete needs somebody in their corner.
THE EXTRA
I love listening to DJ’s during my deep flow states, here is a Monday morning DJ for ya!
Hit reply with yours. If enough of you send one, I'll build the whole list into a Monday warm-up playlist and send it back to you.
